A long time ago (before the internet) on a small island in Europe
I was born in Northampton, England, Europe, Earth.
Northampton is a large grey town in the middle of the UK – its chief exports being gloomy but non-extreme weather and a dry and (often misinterpreted) sarcastic sense of humour which the inhabitants use to keep the rest of the world at bay.
After an eventful childhood, I fled to the south of the country to study accounting at Exeter University. In hindsight, going to only three lectures over my three-year course is probably the reason why I never really took to accounting – but it did give me a lot of spare time to explore the city, read a whole lot, drink a whole lot more, and eventually meet my wife.
I’m a marketer
So accounting wasn’t for me. I tried, I really did, but it was just so… boring.
Marketing, however, is the perfect synergy of interests for me, it has allowed me to express myself creatively but also use the analytical skills that made me consider accounting in the first place. My combination of creativity and analytics has helped me to enjoy a wide range of marketing roles at small, medium and large businesses across the world:
- 2010-2011: Naylor Hotels Ltd
- 2011-2014: Ashridge/Hult Business School
- 2015-2017: Amazon
- 2017-Present: NelsonHall
I’ve won multiple awards for my marketing work over the years, and have focused my career especially around digital marketing – playing to my other strength as a massive geek that can’t get enough of the internet, gaming, and new technologies (just don’t ask me to rewire a plug).
I’m a geek
Guilty as charged, I’ve been a geek ever since I first discovered gaming and anime. I spend a lot of my free time working on my ridiculous games backlog (damn you Steam sales!) and reading any fantasy and sci-fi books that I can get my hands on.
I’m a lifelong fan of every Final Fantasy game (even the admittedly terrible ones) but what I really crave is a good story. This is my main passion, seeking out new stories, specifically epic fantasy and sci-fi stories.
I’m a writer
So I consume stories. Eventually, I got to the point where I was creating my own stories in my head, and each new story consumed was then weaved into this ongoing narrative. I’ve reached a critical point now and I want to start sharing these stories with the world – I want to tell you all stories of heroes, villains and everything in-between in the hopes that you will love stories just as much as I do.
